Did you see that ??

Lady spies a bunny bolting from the bushes. A refreshing rain had just blessed the desert.

Sunny Saturday

You may remember Logan from a post just before Christmas. He is now 18 weeks old and growing into quite the handsome devil. Lady met Logan for the first time this morning. It was very cute; Logan just couldn't stop kissing her! This was the start of a very big "dog-day" for Lady. She got a bath this afternoon then took a long walk with Ollie the bulldog. Its now seven PM and we are finally home. Sleepy Saturday just started a few minutes ago. Lady is dog-tired and sound asleep at my feet. Nighty-night everybody.

Sleepy Saturday (kind of)

Lady - Always relaxed, but keeping an eye on Dad just in case he grabs a leash or the car keys. Ready to leap into action on this nice sunny day. But, in the meantime, better rest up for chow-chow time.

Sleepy Saturday (beau-beau sytle)

Here are my original beau-beaus (Gold Sunny and Blonde Cosmo) from about 1993. Papa and baby enjoying a much needed snooze. What in the world is a beau-beau you ask? (could be spelled many ways). Twenty years ago this became the description of Sunny (papa dog) my first Golden Retriever. It seemed to be the perfect term to describe his big, handsome, powerful, happy head! The term expanded to include the head shape of a few specific breeds: Goldens, Labs, Newfies, Great Pyrenees etc. When Cosmo came along to make book-end Goldens in our house, the term was used to refer to both Goldens together (the beau-beaus). Yea, I know, we could spend the rest of our blogging lives talking about the nicknames we give our dogs, but this one has morphed into a broader dictionary listing, because no one can resist a beau-beau head, crow-barring your arm for attention!! I dare you to try.

Where I first saw Lady

Posted on an adoption website (April 08), written by her foster family. There were about a dozen Goldens available, but I just knew she was the one.

The Golden heart of a rescuer

My job is to assist God's creatures
I was born with the drive to fulfill their needs
I take in helpless, unwanted, homeless creatures
without planning or selection
I have bought dog food with my last dime
I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand
I have hugged someone vicious and afraid
I have fallen in love a thousand times
And I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body too many times to count
I have Animal Friends and friends who have animal friends
I don't often use the word "pet"
I notice those lost at the road side
And my heart aches
I know of no creature unworthy of my time
I want to live forever if there aren't animals in Heaven
But I believe there are
Why would God make something so perfect and leave it behind
Some may think we are master of the animals
But the animals have mastered themselves
Something people still haven't learned
War and Abuse make me hurt for the world
But a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for mankind
We are a quiet but determined army
And we are making a difference every day
There is nothing more necessary than warming an orphan
nothing more rewarding than saving a life
No higher recognition than watching them thrive
There is no greater joy than seeing a baby play
who only days ago, was too weak to eat
By the love of those who I've been privileged to rescue
I have been rescued
I know what true unconditional love really is
for I've seen it shining in the eyes of so many
Grateful for so little
I am an Animal Rescuer
My work is never done
My home is never quiet
My wallet is always empty
But my heart is always full

Music for us dog lovers

If you are like me and love to collect great music from iTunes or the MP3 service of your choice; you might like two of my favorite DOG songs. They are pretty easy to find, so enjoy and pet your best pal as you listen.

Buy a dog - Luce
"we'll never be alone, we'll buy a dog and bring him home
He'll jump up on the bed, we'll be the best of friends"

Dogs life - John McCutcheon
These lyrics are clearly understandable and just awesome.

OK, we ADOPTED a dog and brought her home

Sleepy Saturday

My fellow bloggers and most readers realize that it's tough to create consistently interesting postings on a regular basis. I love the "Wordless Wednesday" idea and will immediately incorporate it into my blog. One picture, thousand words.....adds up for me!!  Lady approves too; more time for walks, duck treats and belly rubs....yay.

Current picture of Lady

She is such a great dog. Mr. Alpha is soooooo lucky to have such a fine girl by his side, ridding shotgun, sniffing bushes and greeting every two and four legged passer by. Goldens are just the best.

Holidays with Rocky

Lady and I agreed to dog and house sit while my sister and her husband took a well deserved vacation to Maui. A new house in Anthem, AZ was the site of 11 days with Lady, Rocky and Mr. Alpha. I'm here to tell you that it was a pleasure to see these two different dogs become best of friends. Rocky is a lovable but occasionally naughty 3 year old Scottish Terrier and Lady is (of course) a 9 year old Golden. Rocky was on his best behavior; which I owe to Lady's perfect energy and endless patience. Thanks Lady for being such a sweetheart and setting the example. Rocky was a good citizen and tried hard to fit in. We had a fine time.

Happy New Year from all of us.....

Logan

Happiness and joy for my friends Linda and John. Logan is their new puppy and special boy. Sadness for the loss of Major, their male Golden; passed away just a couple of months ago.

"There were no answers to my questions.
But now I think he went away because you were coming".

Hanging with Santa

Here is Lady reluctantly posing with Santa. Things were a little chaotic during the photo op. There were so many distractions. Santa just didn't want to move very far, so the creature with the smallest brain had to adjust. Oh well, must have been a long day for the fat guy. We did get to spend some quality time with Ollie the bulldog; running, sniffing and doing all the fun things two dogs that truly like each other do. That was so much fun. It really made our day!!
